Epic Weekend

Getting closer to Truchas

This weekend contained more fun than any one weekend has the right to contain! Tiffany and I jetted out of Santa Fe Friday afternoon and headed towards Grand Junction through Chama, Pagosa, Duranga, Silverton, Ouray, and Montrose. The Chama valley was ablaze with color from scrub oak and some aspens. The aspens were in full force though on Molass pass above Durango, just brilliant brilliant gold. The San Juans also had a nice dusting of snow on the high peaks to top it all off. We met up with Andy and Sarah in Ouray and continued on in to my parent's place.

We all woke up after a wonderful night at the Grandparent's condo (Thanks!!) to some storm skies, which threatened our planned activity of mountain biking in Fruita. After a killer breakfast downtown, Andy, Sarah, and I packed up the bikes and headed to Mary's Loop despite pouring rain. Good thing we did, because the rain broke just as we entered Fruita, providing spectacular riding weather. We bombed Horsethief bench, Mary's Loop, and bonked on Moore Fun, but all in all had an awesome time.

The next day (Sunday) Tiffany and I drove back to Santa Fe to attend a "They Might Be Giants" concert with our friend Rebecca and Martin. Fabulous concert, if a bit chilly (it was outdoors). My cheeks hurt from laughing so much, and my feet were screaming from dancing for hours on the flag stone patio.

This morning we jumped out of bed and took Tiffany to the airport for her Play Therapy conference in LA. I drove back home and hopped on the 675 for a long awaited ride through Truchas to Taos to look at all of the colors. Well, some where in the Carson forest I got distracted and enticed by the road to Sipapu ski area and decided I would check out the road to Mora, which I had heard was beautiful. Once in Mora I kept on heading into Las Vegas, NM because I've really only stopped to get gas there on the highway. The town is pretty cool actually with a bunch of amazing old buildings. Too bad there really isn't anything there anymore.

I then took the "Old Santa Fe Trail" (now the I-25 frontage road) all the way back to Santa Fe. After all that time on amazing little roads I couldn't face bombing back to Santa Fe on the highway. Something about two (and sometimes one) lane roads just makes you more connected to the land it seems, even if they sometimes make it seem you're riding a bronco instead of a performance motorcycle.

Now it is 8:00 and I think I will follow Nikki's lead and just go to sleep.
